A manager in Tessera is a relationship, not a role — anyone can be one. An administrator records who reports to whom; nothing is shared as a result of that alone.

Opting in

A learner decides, per manager, whether that manager sees their required training, from the “Who sees this” panel on their profile. Nothing is shared until the learner turns it on, and they choose separately for each manager they report to. Turning sharing off takes effect right away. If an administrator removes a reporting line, the learner’s choice for that manager is cleared — adding the line again later starts private, not from where it left off.

What a manager sees

When someone shares with them, a manager sees:
  • Your required training and when each is due
  • Whether you’ve started, finished, or tested out, and the date you finished
  • Certificates for required training

What a manager never sees

Whatever the learner chooses, a manager never sees:
  • Scores on checks, test-outs, or assignments
  • How many attempts you made
  • Your conversations with the tutor
  • Your learning profile and the changes Tessera made for you
  • Courses that aren’t required training
  • When you were active or how long you spent

The team view

A manager’s team view lists only the people who have opted in, with their required training, due dates, status, and certificates. People who report to the manager but haven’t opted in are shown only as a count — Tessera doesn’t reveal their names or that they exist beyond that number.
